ABOUT Mike
Mike Korson
Arranger/Founder of MK Music Designs
Mike Korson is a composer, arranger, and creative collaborator with a passion for helping marching bands create meaningful and memorable performance experiences. Through thoughtful show design, musical storytelling, and visual coordination, he works closely with directors and ensembles to develop productions that engage audiences while fostering growth and achievement for students.
Based in Dallas, TX, Mike earned both his Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees from Texas Christian University and completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of North Texas. His academic background, combined with years of experience in music education and performance, has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of both the artistic and practical aspects of creating successful marching band productions.
In addition to his work in the marching arts, Mike serves on the Music Industry Studies faculty at University of Texas at Arlington, where he teaches courses in Recording Techniques, Digital Music Technology, and Music for Video Games and Film. As a committed educator, his work in higher education allows him to blend creativity with technology while helping students develop the skills needed for careers in today's evolving music industry.
His design philosophy centers on the belief that every ensemble has its own unique identity, strengths, and goals. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all approach, Mike collaborates with directors and designers to create productions that reflect the character of their program while remaining achievable for their students. From initial concept development and repertoire selection to thematic design, visual coordination, and program integration, he strives to ensure that every element contributes to a cohesive and compelling performance.
Mike resides in Arlington, Texas, with his wife, Hannah Weller, and their two pugs, Chewy and Penny. Outside of arranging, and composing, he enjoys playing pickleball, gathering with friends and family for board games, and spending quality time with loved ones.
Whether assisting with a complete production design, music selection, visual planning, or creative consultation, Mike is dedicated to helping ensembles bring their vision to life. His mission is to create performances that resonate with audiences, provide meaningful experiences for students, and leave a lasting impression long after the final note is played.
